Located in the village of Stroud Road south of Gloucester, Gap Hill Winery grows awesome veldelho.
Vigneron Brian Eastoe loves his work: “We find that the Stroud “terroir” is just right for producing quality verdelho. We continue to pay careful attention to soil, microclimate and vineyard management so that our artful winemaker receives quality hand-picked grapes each February.”
The Hunter region to the south is known for its distinctive verdelhos. This northern Stroud region verdelho tends towards crispness compared to the fuller style of the more southerly Pokolbin verdelhos.
Winemaker Rhys Eather has a great reputation in the Hunter for making quality white wines. His combination of Australian and international winemaking experience makes a perfect fit with their drive for quality and distinctiveness. Winemaker until 2013 was David Fatches.
Both winemakers have utilised a slow and cool fermentation period to ensure that Gap Hill verdelho retains maximum fruit flavour when fermented to dryness.
